I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1981, after training with a medium sized firm, gaining valuable experience across all areas of accounting and taxation. Then I joined one of the top three firms in the world to further enhance my technical knowledge. In 1986, I joined a FTSE 100 company to develop my management accounting skills until 1989 when I became Financial Director of a local clothing retailer. Meanwhile, in 1984 I had set up my own accounting practice. After two years as a Financial director, I decided that I had more to offer from my own practice which I have successfully done until recently retiring.
My journey has helped me to gain knowledge and experience across a range of business sectors, in particular retail, hotels/pubs, motor trade, engineering and education. Also I spent several years as an examiner and marker of the professional exams for ICAS.
