Bringing Businesses Together To Champion Social Mobility at our Talent of Tomorrow Event
On 5th April, Wiseup Networks proudly hosted our highly anticipated Talent of Tomorrow event at Altrincham Football Club. This gathering brought together businesses and education providers in the hospitality lounge for a day filled with engaging discussions, networking, and of course, football.
With the Altrincham FC v Yeovil Town match as our backdrop, we created a powerful platform to discuss the future of young talent, encouraging collaboration and a shared commitment to supporting the next generation.
Over 60 attendees joined us, including representatives from local businesses as well as Trafford and Stockport College Group. Together, we explored some of the key challenges affecting young people’s career prospects today.
One of the most pressing topics on the agenda was social mobility. We believe that a young person’s career opportunities should be shaped by their skills and ambition, not by their socioeconomic background. We discussed ways that businesses can help level the playing field, ensuring that all students have equal access to career pathways and professional success.
Another vital theme of the event was cultural capital; it was our goal to emphasise how crucial it is to equip young people with the knowledge, behaviours, and skills needed to navigate the complexities of both society and the modern workforce. Work experience accessibility was also at the forefront of our discussions, as all too often, students without existing industry connections find themselves at a disadvantage, as traditional work experience opportunities rely heavily on personal networks. We explored ways to dismantle these barriers, ensuring that all young people, regardless of background, have access to meaningful and impactful experiences that will help them transition into the workplace.
Beyond the thought-provoking discussions, the Talent of Tomorrow event was also an opportunity to drive real change. As a collective, we laid the groundwork for new initiatives and partnerships that will continue to support young people on their journey into the workforce. And to top off an already rewarding day, our attendees came together to raise funds for Altrincham FC’s charity, Altrincham Football Club Community Sports. It was a fantastic way to round off a truly inspiring event.
