Wiseup is proud to announce the continuation of its partnership with LondonEnergy for another year of the transformative Pathfinder Programme.
LondonEnergy is a resource and waste management company serving North London that creates power from household waste unsuitable for recycling. Their innovative solutions to waste management save tonnes of waste from ending up in landfill, whilst generating new power to serve over 2,000,000 people in the community every year.
This marks LondonEnergy’s fourth programme together, and second of the 2024/2025 academic year, demonstrating LondonEnergy’s continued commitment to giving back to young people from the North London community.
LondonEnergy’s latest programme
In the next few months, ten enthusiastic students from Harris Academy Tottenham school will take part in this year’s experience, giving them even greater access to the inner workings of one of the UK's largest waste management operations.
The Pathfinder Programme combines mentoring with work experience to give 16-17 year olds the opportunity to experience the workplace like never before.
Kicking off the programme with LondonEnergy’s mentor training workshop, members of staff from LondonEnergy were joined by Wiseup coach and mentor – Stepehen Chandler, for a morning of interactive learning. To prepare them to effectively work with their mentees, the mentors were given a number of exercises and best practices to consider. They took away mentor manuals to ensure they’re equipped with all they need to support their mentees.
Mentoring support will wrap around the entire placement – with sessions before, during, and after the week itself – helping students prepare fully and reflect meaningfully on their time with LondonEnergy. For many, these early career experiences are crucial in shaping their goals and ambitions, especially in specialisms and areas they may never have previously considered.
What’s next
Now that the mentors have experienced their training, they will shortly be taking part in the much anticipated first mentoring sessions, which will be in person at the school.
In May, the students will converge at LondonEnergy’s EcoPark site at Edmonton. They’ll immerse themselves in a wide array of job roles, giving the students a well rounded understanding of the variety of job functions available within this valuable sector.
Gilda Good – Communications Officer at LondonEnergy commented:
“LondonEnergy is excited to partner with Wiseup for a 4th year, as we prepare to host students from Harris Academy Tottenham for a week of work experience.
This week our mentors attended a Mentor Briefing Workshop, where they gained practical skills for how to effectively listen, guide, and build rapport with their mentees.
Our team is eager to meet their mentees soon and inspire the next generation of professionals.”
This most recent Pathfinder Programme promises to be the most impactful yet, with new workshops and opportunities for the students taking part. We’re confident that in addition to the students, the mentors, the school, and the wider community will all benefit from this exciting programme.
