Generali's work experience week is a success!

Last week marked a transformative experience for five bright minds from Harris Academy Westminster, as they embarked on the Pathfinder Programme, culminating in a work placement at Generali.

Earlier in the academic year, the students were each paired with a mentor, then, in the lead up to their work experience, the pairs underwent several mentoring sessions in an effort to build up confidence and prepare the students to maximise their experience. As such, the students entered their placement with confidence in their steps.

Throughout the work experience, Generali prepared a range of fantastic activities. The budding students delved into immersive workshops designed to equip them with essential skills for their future endeavours, ranging from crafting CVs to harnessing the power of LinkedIn for career advancement. As well as being primed with tools crucial for navigating the professional landscape, the students developed their first professional networks and shared fantastic updates as their work experience progressed.

The feedback pouring in from the students reflects the profound impact of their experience, with positive reflections describing the initiative as eye-opening. The mentee’s comments encapsulate the sentiment shared by many of their peers. The opportunity to interact with industry experts and fellow participants proves to be a catalyst for inspiration and growth. In particular, engaging with individuals who generously shared their expertise and experiences created a supportive environment conducive to learning. On the final day of the work experience, the students gathered to present their findings to their peers, before enjoying a celebratory lunch to commemorate all their hard work.

The mentors at Generali played a pivotal role in curating this enriching experience, showcasing their insights and expertise to help the students maximise their experience. The Pathfinder Programme gives mentors a platform to share their knowledge with those just starting out in their careers; it is a gateway opportunity that opens many doorways to individuals who may not always have the connections to gain a foothold in their careers.

Beyond the technical and professional skills, the students also gained invaluable soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. These competencies are essential in any career and will undoubtedly serve the students well as they progress. The confidence they built throughout the week was evident during their final presentations, where they articulated their learnings with poise and clarity, impressing both their peers and mentors.
