Wiseup is excited to announce a brand-new partnership with leading consultancy firm Inverto to deliver the Pathfinder Programme – a powerful mentoring and work experience initiative for students from Queen Mary University of London.
Last week, Wiseup Mentor and Coach – Stephen Chandler joined seven volunteer mentors from Inverto for an afternoon training session in order to prepare the mentors for the programme.
Inverto’s programme
Through the programme, seven university students will be matched with Inverto professionals for six structured mentoring sessions, designed to give them meaningful insight into consultancy as a career. The programme also includes a half-day in-office experience at Inverto’s London office, giving students the chance to witness consultancy in action and engage with a range of professionals in the sector.
The programme has been carefully designed to help students explore their career motivations, set goals, and prepare for the transition from university to the world of work. Each session builds on the last, starting with introductory career mapping and goal-setting, before progressing through industry insight, personal branding, and future planning.
Here’s a snapshot of what the students will experience:
Session 1: Introductions & Career Mapping
Students will reflect on their academic journey and career interests, while mentors will begin setting SMART goals with them.
An introductory research task will be set to help the students fully grasp Inverto’s business model.
Session 2: Office Prep & Understanding the Industry
A deeper dive into the consultancy sector, its roles, and culture – while preparing for the in-office visit. The mentoring pairs will also go through session 1’s research task.
Session 3: In-Office Day
A half-day spent at Inverto, including mentoring, staff interactions, and insights into day-to-day operations.
Session 4: In-Office Reflection
Students will discuss what they learned, what surprised them, and how their perceptions of the consultancy world have evolved.
Session 5: Application Strategies & Personal Branding
This session is all about preparing the students for the first steps in their early careers by reviewing CVs, LinkedIn profiles, and elevator pitches. The mentors will guide students through how to stand out in competitive applications.
Session 6: Goal Setting & The Future
The students will revisit the goals they set in session one and work with mentors to define actionable next steps for their career path.
Inverto, a subsidiary of Boston Consulting Group, has consultants working across procurement, supply chain, and operations strategy. Their volunteers bring industry insight and personal career stories, helping mentees see how diverse and rewarding consultancy can be – regardless of background.
At Wiseup, we believe access and guidance shouldn’t be limited to those with industry connections. The Pathfinder Programme breaks down traditional barriers, offering students valuable mentoring and career insight from professionals who are passionate about social mobility.
