Pathfinder Programme

On Friday 13th June, we were thrilled to see the Pathfinder Programme come to life in its very first in-person mentoring session, hosted at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Developed in collaboration with Inverto, a BCG company, this programme is designed to support students from underrepresented backgrounds as they navigate their journey from education into the world of work — and Friday marked an important milestone in that mission.

The energy in the room on Friday was palpable, and the mentors were impressed by the curiosity, drive, and thoughtfulness of the students they met.

Programme background

The afternoon brought together a group of engaged and motivated QMUL students with Inverto’s dedicated mentors for an inspiring session. For some of the students, it was their first opportunity to speak directly with professionals in the consulting industry, ask honest questions, and gain clarity on what a career in consulting could look like.

Kickstarting the afternoon, Wiseup’s Joe Wood shared some background on the programme, including expectations and what they could expect to achieve.

The Inverto mentors then provided an overview of the business and their backgrounds, including routes taken and the realities of working in a fast-paced, impact-driven environment. These real-world insights are exactly what the Pathfinder Programme is built around: breaking down barriers to opportunity and equipping students with the confidence and knowledge to take their next steps.

The mentors all attended the Wiseup Training Workshop to prepare themselves with a range of topics and areas to help equip their mentees with all the inights and experiences needed to flourish in a consultancy career.

The seven students had the chance to sit down with mentors in a one-to-one setting, helping students gain personalised guidance and ask questions freely.

Later session topics may include: navigating job application processes, understanding the fast paced consultancy culture, career mapping, personal branding and preparing for the future through goal setting.

This session is just the start of a series of six sessions and an in office day. Over the coming months, the Inverto mentors will continue to provide QMUL students with a further five mentoring sessions, plus real-world exposure to the consulting industry through an in office experience all with the aim of making the path from university to the workplace more accessible, informed, and supported.

We’re incredibly proud of what’s already been achieved — and even more excited about what’s still to come.

A huge thank you to the Inverto mentors, the QMUL team, and most of all, the students who showed up ready to learn, engage, and take that first step forward. This is what bridging the gap between education and the workplace is all about.
