Last month, ten 15-16 year old students from Leytonstone School had the chance to embark on a week-long work experience at LondonEnergy, offering them a glimpse into the professional world and a taste of the various career paths available.
This marks the beginning of LondonEnergy’s third consecutive year of mentoring and work experience programmes designed to give young people a greater understanding of the workplace in a real-world environment.
The students were paired with a mentor each in the lead-up to the work experience, which involved several one to one mentoring sessions to prepare them to step into the workplace with ease.
The enthusiastic students were welcomed to LondonEnergy’s EcoPark site before jumping straight into the week's activities, which was made up of a carefully curated schedule. There were a range of practical workshops designed to give these students essential career skills, including crafting standout CVs and optimising their LinkedIn profiles. Adding to this, the students were lucky enough to be introduced to a range of departments, from IT, HR, Legal and Waste Management. On the final day of the work experience, the students completed their week by presenting their findings back to one another.
The students identified a number of areas of new learnings, including (in their own words):
The students were especially thrilled to experience the range of departments, with one student commenting “I enjoyed learning about what the different departments do for the company. In particular, Project Management and Finance.” Another added “ I mostly liked the more creative and practical side of work.”
The students showed marked improvements in the following areas:
We’re proud to be partnered with LondonEnergy as they show continued dedication towards changing the futures of local students. What’s more, this years programmes have only just begun, as they’re set to run another programme to help even more students get career-ready in the Spring/Summer this year.
A huge thank you to LondonEnergy and their dedicated mentors for investing in the future of these students; your commitment to such an important cause is revolutionary.
