Five days. Two schools. One unforgettable introduction to the world of global engineering recruitment.
Earlier in June, Wiseup Networks partnered with NES Fircroft to deliver a dynamic work experience week for students from 5 Wellington School and Trafford College - part of our growing Pathfinder Programme that connects young people with meaningful industry insight and career inspiration.
During the week, the students were immersed in a structured, engaging week that blended professional development, project work, and behind-the-scenes access to one of the world’s leading technical recruitment businesses - supporting clients in energy, life sciences, engineering and infrastructure sectors across the globe.
A week designed to inspire
Each day focused on a different aspect of NES Fircroft’s operations, giving students the chance to explore new departments, meet with specialists, and get hands-on with tasks and tools used across the business.
Highlights from the week included:
The experience culminated in final presentations delivered by the students to NES mentors and staff — showcasing not only what they’d learned, but how much confidence they had gained in just a few days.
Bridging education and employment
This programme wasn’t just about giving students something to add to their CVs - it was about helping them imagine themselves in the world of work. By hearing directly from NES staff, engaging with real challenges, and understanding the breadth of roles available in the industry, students were able to connect classroom learning with future pathways.
The students shared lots of positive words:
“He was engaged with me in every activity. He helped me get prepared for my presentation planning and guide me through the role of a recruiter.” said one student.
Another commented: “I've been given great relevant advice from my mentor. He has made sure that what I wanted to get out of the work experience I got - for example questioning HR. On the first day I felt less nervous as I knew I had someone there I knew.”
A community effort
The success of the week was made possible thanks to the dedication and openness of the NES Fircroft team, who gave their time generously and welcomed the students into their world. It’s a great example of how businesses can play a transformative role in shaping the future workforce.
Likewise, the students deserve recognition for showing up each day with energy, curiosity, and commitment — a real testament to the impact of giving young people a platform to shine.
Looking ahead
This partnership marks another exciting step in Wiseup’s mission to bridge the gap between education and employment through real-world experiences.
Whether in technical industries like engineering and energy, or creative, digital, or finance roles, we believe young people deserve opportunities to explore, connect, and grow.
We’re proud to work with businesses like NES Fircroft who share that vision.
