Inverto’s Pathfinder Programme

Seven volunteers from Inverto have put themselves forward to mentor seven students from Queen Mary University of London, across five 1-2-1 mentoring sessions over the coming months.

The Pathfinder Programme is a structured mentoring and work experience initiative designed to give students meaningful exposure to the world of consultancy, while building the skills, confidence, and networks needed to succeed in professional environments.

Through a combination of 1-2-1 mentoring, practical workshops, and direct engagement with Inverto consultants, the programme aims to expand students’ overall employability and equip them with the tools to succeed in a competitive post-graduate job market.

Today’s session

Led by Wiseup coach and mentor – Stephen Chandler, the mentor training workshop equips professionals with the mindset, tools, and structure to deliver high-impact mentoring to young people at a critical stage in their development.

We have designed the workshop to blend coaching and mentoring techniques to help mentees build self-awareness, explore career pathways, and make informed decisions about their future careers, whether in consultancy or otherwise.

Through practical exercises such as career “sweet spot” mapping, networking simulations, and structured goal setting, mentors are able to develop the skills needed to guide meaningful, outcome-driven conversations.

The mentors will all receive a mentor manual, offering a clear session structure for their five sessions over the programme, including rapport building through to action planning, the workshop ensures mentoring is both purposeful and adaptable, while also strengthening mentors’ own communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Recapping last year’s programme

Last year’s programme similarly targeted second, third and master's students at QMUL, from a range of course subjects and general career interests.

Taking part in six sessions in total, along with the morning session at Inverto’s office, the students all found the experience valuable, with key stats including:

There was a 93% average improvement across all key skills areas measured – for example confidence, understanding of consultancy world, networking & communication.

The overall themes of last year’s programme, included a strong focus on building both technical and soft skills, including:

  • Communication and networking
  • Structured thinking and problem solving
  • Adaptability and collaboration
  • CV writing, applications, and interview skills

We’re thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Inverto in a way that is positively impacting the lives of young people. With the tangible results evident, we’re excited to see how this year’s cohort get on, and can’t wait to share more updates as the programme progresses.
